The Neyers 2019 ÂME Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

In a recent review, James Suckling heaped praise on our 2019 ÂME Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. We’ve been producing this wine since the 2005 harvest. It’s from the grapes grown on the highest elevation parcel on our property in Conn Valley. Each year it seems even more attractive. Here’s what James had to say about our 2019 vintage ÂME in his review:

“Blackberries, black cherries, bitter chocolate and dried herbs on the nose. Firm and chewy with a full body and savory, fleshy layers. Nicely focused, with a lengthy finish. Drink after 2024.

The vines used to produce the grapes for this wine were planted in 1998, so they’re 25 years-old now, and produce a reliably steady crop of high-quality fruit. The ‘old-vine character’ is a crucially important part of the finished wine.
Looking northeast, up the hill through the vines of the ÂME Vineyard. These old vines were planted by Dave Abreu in 1998, and are spaced 3X5, trained to unilateral cordon, then vertically trellised. The large white rock in the center is typical of the Basalt that covered the area, and we leave it there as a reminder of what it took to plant that steep, hillside vineyard.
The wildflowers are in abundance now after the heavy rains this year. Nothing brightens the Napa Valley landscape more than the fields of wild mustard. The recently-pruned Cabernet Sauvignon vines of the ÂME Vineyard are a striking backdrop to this field of mustard.
Mountain Lupine adds another shade to the vineyard’s color scheme this time of year.
